How Essential Oils Relieve Colds Symptoms

When temperatures drop, we all become prone to colds. While having colds is common and natural during winter months, nobody has to endure the discomfort that it brings. Fortunately, there are essential oils that can help prevent and even cure cold symptoms. A good diffuser essential oil is certainly your weapon against cold causing bacteria and germs.

Aromatherapy for Common Cold Symptoms

Aromatherapy has been used as mood lifters and to provide relief for common body conditions including colds. If you or a loved one is suffering any of these symptoms, the use of essential oils will prove to be very beneficial.

Head Congestion and Stuffy Nose

The best aromatherapy method for stuffy nose and head congestion is a simple steam inhalation. Steam has the ability to open up and then dissolve mucus. All you have to do is to add up to two drops of tea tree oil into a bowl of hot water. This essential oil is known to be an excellent disinfectant for the respiratory system. If possible, you may also combine a drop of tea tree oil with a drop of Serbian fir or eucalyptus oil. Inhale the steam for around 10 minutes to get rid of the cold bacteria in the sinus passages.

Chest Congestion

A great relief for chest congestion is the combination of a carrier oil such as jojoba and a few drops of Serbian fir, eucalyptus, tea tree or Cyprus oil. Rub the mixture of oils onto your chest and in a few minutes, you will feel instant relief and ease of breathing.

Muscle Aches

Make a formula by mixing ten drops of oil and one drop of carrier oil, and rub the mixture on the sore muscles. Warming oils are ideal for this condition. Black pepper oil is popular warming oil that is known for its anti-inflammatory and warming properties. It is also known to be effective in stimulating blood flow and circulation. The other warming oils you can use include marjoram, ginger, and rosemary essential oils.

Essential Oils to Boost the Immune System

The best way to prevent colds symptoms is to boost the immune system. You can use peppermint oil for this purpose. Other oils that have antibacterial properties are palmarosa, lavender, cedarwood, geranium and frankincense. You may combine any of these oils with a carrier oil and rub on the skin on a regular basis.

Aside from inhaling and rubbing essential oils directly on your skin, another method of aromatherapy is with the use of essential oil diffusers. Just add a drop of an essential oil into Smiley Daisy diffuser and let it on during the night as you sleep. You will be amazed with how relaxing and soothing it feels to use this method of aromatherapy.
